"Go Take a Hike" in Pleasanton!
The Callippe Preserve Hiking Trail surrounds Callippe Preserve Golf Course and some of the home sites. The trail meanders under large Heritage oak trees, over vast graze land, and along the golf course. Many forms of wildlife may be seen from the trails, including deer, squirrels, raccoons, foxes and other furry friends. Bird Watchers will love the views and sights, as many species of birds, including hawks, vultures, and turkeys, are very active in the area. The trail also borders areas designated for species preservation of the endangered Callippe Silverspot Butterfly. The trail provides beautiful views of the surrounding hills, Pleasanton Ridge, Mount Diablo, and the golf course below.
The trail head is located behind golf course parking lot (8500 Clubhouse Drive in Pleasanton) and meanders west (behind the 18th green). There is plenty of parking and the golf course hosts a restaurant and bar for refreshments, hiking snacks, or a post-hike meal!
At one point, the trail stops at Happy Valley Road. Hikers need to walk along the side of Westbridge road up toward the water tower, and reenter the trail system. The un-paved trail is well-maintained and is fairly flat. There are some slight elevation changes, so beginner and moderate hikers alike can enjoy this 3.5 mile beautiful hike!
Bicycles are not permitted on the trails. Dogs must be on leashes. Click Here to see a map of the Pleasanton trail systems.
