The Federally Endangered Callippe Silverspot Butterfly

The Callippe Silverspot Butterfly is medium sized with a wingspan of 4 to 5 cm.  It is found in native grasslands
where females lay their eggs on the flowering host plant, named Johny Jump-Up.  (Viola pedunculata.) 

The Callippe Butterfly is Federally Endangered and is a sight to behold.
